Walking and cycling

  • The terrain from Strokestown to Clondra is country roadways.
  • From Clondra to Maynooth there are pathways suitable for walking and cycling.
  • From Maynooth to Dublin the terrain varies.
  • Deep Sinking – Clonsilla – Castleknock is NOT bicycle friendly. Please see Clonsilla – Castleknock Bicycle Diversion Map here.

Wheelchairs

Many sections of the National Famine Way are wheelchair-accessible, particularly near towns and villages. However, some rural stretches have uneven ground or narrow gates, – many of which can be opened – so accessibility varies.

  • Deep Sinking – Clonsilla – Castleknock is NOT Wheelchair friendly
  • Stretches from Maynooth – Clonsilla are being upgraded and only some parts are Wheelchair friendly.
  • Please Note: There is an occasional bridge along the Trail that is a little tricky and there are slight inclines on approach and declines on opposite side.
Much of the National Famine Way trail is buggy friendly.
